Summer Slaughter 2016 Brought the Aggression to Seattle

Summer Slaughter 2016 made it’s way through Seattle last week with a stop at Studio 7 in Seattle’s SODO district.  On this lineup was Cannibal Corpse, Nile, After the Burial, Suffocation, Carnifex, Revocation, Krisiun, Slaughter to Prevail, Ingested, Enterprise Earth, Ashes of Existence and Bioplague.

In order to get all the fans in doors opened at 2:00pm and the first band of the show started at 2:15pm with sets running about 30 minutes each up until Suffocation when sets started running a bit longer and of course with the headliner having a full hour set.   For a Monday show there were some upset fans due to the early start time, but it didn’t stop people from going.  The event was sold out and the venue completely packed.  Anyone who has been to Studio 7 knows that it’s usually hot inside on any given summer day, but this show had the mix of a sold out crowd and hot summer day that cooked the inside of the venue.  Summer Slaughter was a complete sweatfest.  As each set ended the main floor of the venue emptied outdoors as fans were seeking relief from the heat inside the venue.  As soon as you passed back in through the entry you were immediately hit with a mix of hot, humid, and stench.  But onward fans went to thrash through each show of the lineup.

One by one fans who were over taken by the heat at the show were pulled over the barrier to make their escape.  The crowd was packed in so tight that fans toward the front couldn’t get out unless they were near the edge of the crowd.  Add to that the demands from the bands to create circle pits, it was an all out slaughter.  I found myself wondering how the crowd was going to keep going through the end of the show.  I was already too hot, not even half way through the show.  Taking a break between sets I chatted with one fan who was there in his wheelchair.  He was having a great time but mentioned that people really need to learn about personal hygiene because from his viewpoint it was pretty fowl on an entirely different level.  After the break, back in we all went for more heat and music.

The night continued on until the headliner Cannibal Corpse took the stage.  The lights went low and red as the band took to the stage.  Fans began thrashing and long hair flying in every directions from the fans and the band members.  Sweat was flying in every direction and the crowd was completely into the last act of the show.

All in all it was exactly what it was, Summer Slaughter!  Lots of great bands and crazy fans out to have a good time.  Thanks to all the bands and the fans that came out to participate.
